Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy describes how Drift Channel and Silver Stream Studio LLC ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and discloses information when you use the Drift Channel network and its apps and channels, our website at driftchannel.tv (the "Site"), or otherwise communicate with us (collectively, the "Services"). For purposes of this Privacy Policy, "you" and "your" means you as a user of the Services, whether you are a subscriber, a website visitor, or another individual whose information we have collected pursuant to this Privacy Policy.
Drift Channel is a network of always-on, lean-back ambient visual channels for your television. Each channel — for example, the art channel, "Art Drift" — shows public-domain and CC0 imagery drifting full-screen, with optional narrated text and an ambient music bed. Viewing is passive, with no interactivity beyond navigation. Drift Channel is designed to collect as little information about you as possible: today it has no login or user account, accepts no uploads or user content, and identifies you only by an anonymous device identifier used to manage your subscription and free-tier viewing.
Please read this Privacy Policy carefully. By using and accessing any of the Services, you agree to the collection, use, and disclosure of your information as described in this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree to this Privacy Policy, please do not use or access any of the Services.
1. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, including to reflect changes to our practices, new third-party service providers, or for other operational, legal, or regulatory reasons. We will post the revised Privacy Policy in the Services, update the "Effective" date, and take any other steps required by applicable law.
2. Information We Collect
Drift Channel collects minimal information. Today it has no login or account, and you use it anonymously. The types of information we obtain depend on how you interact with the Services, and come from two main sources: automatically through your use of the Services, and from the third-party providers that help us deliver them.
2.1 Information You Provide Directly
Drift Channel does not currently require or offer an account, and does not accept any uploads, photos, contacts, or other user content. The only information you provide directly is any information you choose to include when you contact us for support (for example, by email).
2.2 Information We Collect Automatically
We automatically collect certain information about your interaction with the Services ("Usage Data"). This may include:
- An anonymous device / app-user identifier generated by the app stores and by our subscription provider, RevenueCat, used to manage your subscription status across sessions. This identifier is not tied to your real-world identity.
- Your subscription and purchase status (for example, whether you have an active Drift Channel Pro subscription).
- Basic product-analytics events describing how the Services are used — for example, which channels are viewed and features used. Analytics are handled through PostHog. Product analytics are not active today; if we enable them in the future, any events would be tied only to your anonymous device identifier, and we will update this policy as needed.
- Server log data, which may include your IP address and request timestamps. Logs are used to operate the free-tier viewing meter — a periodic "heartbeat" that measures daily viewing so we know when the free daily limit has been reached — and for security, debugging, and rate-limiting.
We do not collect uploads, photos, your contacts, or precise location data.
2.3 Information from Third Parties
We receive limited information from the providers that help us deliver the Services:
- The app stores (Apple, and, when Drift Channel launches on those platforms, Amazon and Roku) and our subscription provider, RevenueCat, provide an anonymous app-user identifier and tell us whether you have an active subscription. We receive your subscription status and a subscription identifier — we do not receive your full payment card details.
3. How We Use Information
- Providing the Services. We use information to operate the Drift Channel network and its apps and channels, deliver the ambient imagery, narration, and music, and remember your place in the free-tier viewing meter.
- Subscriptions. We use your anonymous device identifier and subscription status to determine your entitlements and unlock unlimited viewing for Drift Channel Pro subscribers.
- Free-tier metering. We use server logs and the periodic heartbeat to measure daily viewing on the free tier and to present the paywall once the daily limit is reached.
- Security and abuse prevention. We use technical and log data (including IP address) to detect, investigate, and prevent fraudulent, abusive, or malicious activity, and to rate-limit our services.
- Analytics and product improvement. If and when analytics are enabled, we will use pseudonymous usage events to understand how our channels and features are used, diagnose problems, and improve the Services. We do not use analytics to make decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects about you.
- Support. We use any information you send us to provide customer support and to maintain, troubleshoot, and improve the Services.
4. Anonymous Use and Device Identity
Drift Channel does not require you to create an account, and today there is no login. You use the Services anonymously.
- An anonymous, store-generated device / app-user identifier is used to associate your subscription status and your free-tier viewing meter with your device. It is not tied to your name, email, or other real-world identity.
- Your subscription entitlement is stored and validated on your device and through our subscription provider so that the correct tier of access can be unlocked.
- Future login. If we later add an optional login to let you carry a subscription across platforms (for example, between Apple TV, Fire TV, and Roku), we may at that time collect an email address to identify your account. We will update this Privacy Policy before doing so.
5. On-Device Storage and Website Cookies
The Drift Channel apps use on-device storage (such as local app preferences and cached entitlement data) to remember your device identifier, your subscription status, and your settings between sessions.
On our website, we and our service providers may use cookies, local storage, and similar technologies to operate the site, remember your preferences, and — where enabled — measure and analyze traffic and performance. The specific providers and technologies we use may change over time. Where required by applicable law (for example, in the EEA and the UK), we will ask for your consent before setting non-essential analytics cookies or similar technologies, and you can withdraw your consent or change your choices at any time.
Do Not Track and opt-out preference signals: Some browsers transmit "Do Not Track" (DNT) signals, for which there is no accepted industry standard. Where required by applicable law, we honor recognized opt-out preference signals such as the Global Privacy Control (GPC) and treat them as a request to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information for the browser or device that sends them, as described in Sections 6 and 10. If our obligations change under applicable law, we will update this policy and our practices accordingly.
6. How We Disclose Information
We may disclose information to third parties in the following circumstances:
- Service providers who perform services on our behalf. These currently include: the app stores (Apple, and, when Drift Channel launches there, Amazon and Roku) for billing; RevenueCat for subscription management; PostHog for product analytics (when enabled); Cloudflare for image and site hosting and content delivery; and Railway for backend hosting.
- In connection with a business transaction such as a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.
- To comply with legal obligations, to enforce our Terms of Service, and to protect our rights and the rights and safety of our users and the public.
Each third-party provider's handling of the data it receives is governed by that provider's own terms of service and privacy policy. We limit the information we share to what is reasonably necessary for each provider to perform its function.
6.1 Sale and Sharing of Personal Information
Certain of our data practices, such as the use of analytics technologies, may constitute a "sale" or "sharing" of personal information as those terms are broadly defined under applicable state privacy laws, including the California Consumer Privacy Act. Where applicable law provides you with a right to opt out of such sale or sharing, you may exercise that right as described in Section 10. If we adopt technologies that require an on-site opt-out mechanism, we will provide one and update this policy accordingly.
7. Subscriptions and Payments
Drift Channel offers an optional paid subscription, "Drift Channel Pro," which unlocks unlimited viewing. Drift Channel Pro is $5.99 per month or $39.99 per year (prices may vary by store and region). Subscriptions are sold and billed through the app store you subscribe through (Apple, and, when available, Amazon or Roku) and are managed by our subscription provider, RevenueCat. Your payment is processed by the applicable app store under its own terms; we do not receive or store your full payment card number. We receive your anonymous subscription status so we can unlock unlimited viewing. You can manage or cancel your subscription through your app store account settings, and you can restore an existing subscription within the app.
Free-tier users may view for a limited amount each day; once the daily limit is reached, a paywall is shown until viewing resets or you subscribe. For subscriptions purchased through the Apple App Store, your subscription automatically renews unless auto-renewal is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period; you can manage and cancel subscriptions and turn off auto-renewal in your Apple App Store account settings.
8. Our Art Library
The imagery shown across Drift Channel's channels — including on the "Art Drift" art channel — is sourced from public-domain and CC0 collections, such as museum open-access programs and other public-domain sources. This content does not contain your personal information, and viewing it does not require an account. Drift Channel owns the curation, arrangement, narration and stories, and brand — it does not claim ownership of the underlying public-domain works themselves.
9. Children's Data
The Services are not intended to be used by children, and we do not knowingly collect any personal information from children under the age of 16. If you are the parent or guardian of a child who has provided us with personal information, you may contact us to request deletion. As of the effective date of this Privacy Policy, we do not have actual knowledge that we sell or share personal information of individuals under 16 years of age.
10. Your Rights and Choices
Depending on where you live, you may have some or all of the following rights in relation to your personal information. These rights are not absolute, may apply only in certain circumstances, and in certain cases we may decline your request as permitted by applicable law. Because Drift Channel identifies you only by an anonymous device identifier and holds no account, we may be unable to associate a request with a specific individual without additional information.
- Right to Know / Access: You may request information about the personal information we have collected about you.
- Right to Delete: You may request that we delete personal information we maintain about you. Certain data may be retained as required by law or for legitimate business purposes.
- Right to Correct: You may request that we correct inaccurate personal information we maintain about you.
- Right of Portability: You may request a copy of your personal information in a portable format, to the extent technically feasible.
- Right to Opt Out of Sale/Sharing: To the extent applicable law grants you the right to opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information (see Section 6.1), you may exercise that right by contacting us using the information in Section 15. If we adopt technologies that require an on-site opt-out mechanism, we will provide one and update this policy.
- Right to Non-Discrimination: We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights.
10.1 Additional State Privacy Rights
Residents of certain U.S. states — including but not limited to California, Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, Oregon, Texas, Montana, Indiana, Iowa, Tennessee, and other states with comprehensive consumer privacy laws — may have additional rights under applicable state law, which may include the right to opt out of targeted advertising or profiling and the right to appeal our decision regarding a consumer rights request. You may exercise your rights by contacting us using the information in Section 15. We will process your request in accordance with applicable law, and we do not discriminate against consumers who exercise their privacy rights.
We will acknowledge receipt of your request and respond within the timeframes required by applicable law. We may need to verify your identity before fulfilling your request.
11. Data Retention
We retain information for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, to provide the Services to you, for our legitimate business purposes, and as required by law.
| Data Type | Retention | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Anonymous device / app-user identifier | While used to manage your subscription | Generated by the app stores and RevenueCat; not tied to your identity |
| Subscription status | Per RevenueCat and app store policies | Queried to unlock unlimited viewing |
| Free-tier viewing meter / heartbeat | Short-term | Used to enforce the daily free-viewing limit |
| Server logs (incl. IP + timestamps) | Short-term | Used for metering, security, debugging, and rate-limiting |
| Analytics events | Only if analytics are enabled | Currently not active; tied to the anonymous identifier only |
12. Security
We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information, including encryption of data in transit, access controls, and monitoring of our systems. However, no method of transmission over the Internet or method of electronic storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee the absolute security of your information.
13. International Users
Your information may be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States and other countries where we and our service providers operate. If you are located outside of the United States, please be aware that information we collect will be transferred to and processed in the United States. By using our Services, you consent to this transfer.
14. Third-Party Websites and Links
Our Services may provide links to websites or platforms operated by third parties. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of these sites. We encourage you to review their privacy policies before providing any personal information.
